  PLAN YEAR: July 1 through June 30

VESTING: Fully vested after 5 years of service (1 year of service = 1,400 hours)

RETIREMENT AGE:

Normal Retirement - Age 65
Early Retirement - Age 52 with 10 years of service
Disability Retirement - Any age with 4 years of service and actively participating in the Plan

BENEFIT CALCULATION:

Normal Retirement (maximum benefit $2,780.00)
$20.00 for each year of service prior to 6/30/1980;
$100.00 for each year of service from 7/1/80 through 6/30/2002;
$80.00 for each year of service after 7/1/2002.

Early Retirement (maximum benefit $2,780.00)
Same calculation as normal retirement but reduced if under age 56 (see page 13 of your
SPD)

Disability Retirement (maximum benefit $2,780.00)
See Page 14 of SPD

BENEFIT OPTIONS:

Life Period Certain Benefit (60 months, 120 months or 180 months) monthly benefit payable
for participant's lifetime. If death occurs before guaranteed payments are made, balance of
guaranteed payments will be paid to beneficiary. If married, written consent of spouse is
necessary.

Joint & Survivor Annuity - reduced monthly benefit payable for participant's life. If spouse
is alive at the time of participant's death, 50%, 75%, or 100% of the benefit will be paid to the
spouse for life.

PRERETIREMENT DEATH BENEFIT:

Non-Married and Non Vested participants who have not yet incurred a break in service:
Lump sum benefit equal to the total contributions made to the Plan on your behalf.

Vested Participant:
Monthly benefits to surviving spouse equal to 50 percent of survivor's portion of
Joint & Survivor annuity at earliest retirement date.

benefits you are entitled to receive will be determined at the time your application for retirement is

National Pension Plan
     
  Introduction The Plumbers and Pipefitters National Pension Plan is a Taft-Hartley, multi employer, defined benefit pension plan which provides retirement benefits to employees who work for employers that contribute to the Plan. The Plan is paid for by Employers who make contributions on behalf of their employees on a cent-per-hour basis under Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  Participation You become a participant in this plan on the January 1st or July 1st following your work in Covered Employment for a least 870 hours in a period of 12 consecutive months. Once you become a participant, all of your hours in covered employment will count toward eligibility for a benefit under the Plan.
At least 2,250 hours during the 5 Calendar years before the year in which your contribution date is established.
    Reduced Pension
Eligibility

• You are eligible to retire on a reduced pension if: you have 5 or more years of Pension Credit (but less than 35),
• You are age 65 or older, and
• You are entitled to a minimum of 1500 hours in covered employment after your contribution date.


Pension Amount
If you retire with fewer than 35 years of Pension Credit, you will receive a proportionate monthly pension based upon your total years of pension credit. The amount is equal to:

Early Retirement Pension
Eligibility
You are eligible to retire on an Early Retirement Pension if:
• You have 5 or more years of Pension Credit.
• You are age 55 but not yet 65, and
• You are entitled to a minimum of 1500 hours in covered employment
after your contribution date.
Pension Amount
The amount of the Early Retirement Pension is based upon the Normal or reduced pension reduced by 1/8 of 1% for each month that you are between ages 60 and 62 and 1/2 of 1% for each month that you are younger than age 60. There is no reduction when you retire at age 62 or later. Prior to January 1, 1998, the amount employment prior to your effective date of benefits due to disability established to the satisfaction of the Trustees, the Pension Credit may be accrued during at least one of the 5 Calendar Years prior to your disability.
  Disability Benefits You are eligible for a Disability Pension if:
• You have 5 or more years of Pension Credit,
• You are under age 65,
• You are entitled to a minimum of 1500 hours in covered employment after your    contribution date, and
• You have become "Permanently and Totally Disabled" as recognized by your entitlement to a Social Security Disability Benefit (evidence required by the National Pension Plan for the purpose of establishing entitlement).
  Retirement Checklist

Advance planning for your retirement can make applying for your benefits easier. Start by reviewing this checklist:

  • At least on year before your anticipated retirement, but sooner is better, contact the Fund to obtain an "Employment History" form to provide information to the Fund Office on your employment history for Past Service Credit, as noted below.
  • During the year prior to your anticipated retirement, familiarize yourself with the Fund Office procedures and timetables for the processing of your application, especially those which will affect your Effective Date of Benefits.
  • At least six months before your anticipated retirement, select a desired effective date for your benefits to begin, send the documentation needed for processing your benefit.
  • Four months before your anticipated retirement, request an application form from the Fund office.
  • Three months before your anticipated retirement, mail the completed application form to the Fund Office. do not delay submitting your application. It needs to be received not later than the month prior to your planned retirement date.
  • After your last day of employment, have a report of your final hours of employment sent to the Fund Office by your employer.
  • As soon as possible after receipt, complete and mail to the Fund Office the final retirement documents supplied with your benefit award letter.

    Pension Credit for Periods On and After the Contribution Date
    For the period commencing on his contribution date, a participant shall receive one full year of Future Service Credit during each Calendar Year in which he completes 1500 or more Hours of Work in Covered Employment. Proportionately less than one full year of credit shall be granted in accordance with the schedule below. In addition, a participant who completed 1800 or more Hours of work in any calendar year 1999 or later will receive an extra one-tenth of a year of Pension Credit for that year as noted below; and a Participant who completes 2100 or more Hours of Work in any Calendar Year 2000 or later will receive another extra one-tenth of a year of Pension Credit for that year as noted below.
